Working with Religious Leaders

From September 4 to 7, within the framework of the project “Youth for Peace,” the Lazare Foundation had the honor of hosting representatives of various religious denominations at the Patriarchal Residence in Bobokvati.

The working meeting brought together representatives of the Georgian Orthodox Church, the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, and the Muslim Community of Georgia. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss community-based peacebuilding and the role of religious leaders in this process.

Together with the invited moderator and conflict transformation expert, Ms. Nino Kalandarishvili, the participants explored the following topics:

• Peace and Trust – definitions of peace in theory and practice;
• Conflict – its stages and actions for peaceful and secure living;
• Intercultural relations, education, stereotypes, and interreligious issues;
• Security, peace, and everyday peace – its indicators and the concept of human peace;
• Community leadership at the local, regional, and societal levels;
• Relations and cooperation among religious denominations.

Working with religious leaders is one of the key components of the project, as the involvement of clergy in the peacebuilding process makes a significant contribution to
