Teachers of the Akhabastumai School in Zugdidi Municipality implemented a series of training sessions involving both local teachers and students as well as internally displaced teachers and students from schools located near the administrative boundary line. The meetings were held both online and in person.

With the support of mentor teachers and an invited trainer, students received information on peace education, peacebuilding, and peaceful coexistence.

Throughout the sessions, students took part in a variety of educational and recreational activities. The program also included a film screening and group discussion.

Together with their teachers, students developed project ideas that they will later implement in their own schools.

These meetings were organized within the framework of the project “Education for Reconciliation,” implemented by the Institute for the Study of Nationalism and Conflicts with the support of the Embassy of the Netherlands.

As part of the project, teachers participated in a series of training programs through which they received knowledge on peace education and conflict-sensitive approaches. They also learned how to design and implement peace initiatives. In the final stage, they had the opportunity to carry out their own peacebuilding initiatives in schools with internal funding support.
